The sweethearts of the Brazilian supporters, Portugal's Tiago Apolonia e Joao Monteiro won the title for the men double's tournament at the Brazilian Open, in Sao Paulo. They faced the South Korean duo, Kin Tae Hoon and lee Jin Kwon, 4 games to 1 (11/6, 11/3, 11/8, 6/11 and 11/5). It was Tiago second god medal at this year's Open, he had already won the Under-21 tournament.

After opening an advantage of 3 games to 0, the Portuguese lost the fourth game, allowing a possible reaction of the Korean players. But the turn of events that occurred with the women in their final, when Ai Fujinuma e Sayaka Hirano were also ahead three to nil, didn't happen again.

"We played very well. We had never been to a final and when we lost the fourth set we knew we weren't doing anything wrong, the thing was they were risking more, going for it", explained Tiago.

Joao echoed his partner's words: "The Koreans were top seed number one, but we did well. We have been playing well through out the competition, so we were confident we could win".

After the match the pair hurried of the stadium to go to the hotel to watch Portugal football match for the FIFA World Cup.
