The Japanese player Kaii Yoshida and the Croatian, Tamara Boros, are the ones to be beaten in the Brazilian Open. Both - in the male and female respectively - are pre-qualified as seed of their group in the tournament.

Amongst the men, Yoshida will be accompanied by the two Brazilians between the 16 better placed players in the championship: Thiago Monteiro (7th) and Hugo Hoyama (10th). Besides the Japanese player, the Open runner up is Cristophe Legout (62nd), from France, peter Sereda (68th), from Slovakia and Bojan Tokic (74th), from Slovenia.

In the female group, not less than 15 of the 16 seeds of the group are amongst the 70 best players in the world. The dispute promises to be balanced, since from the second pre-qualified player, the Korean Hyun Jung Moon (24th), to An Konishi (67th, Japan) the difference is only 23 positions on the ITTF ranking. The Brazilian player, Ligia Silva, 233rd in the world completes the list.
